Prior to 2011, Disney Junior was known as Playhouse Disney when the Disney Channel logo changed in 2002.
After the programming block was discontinued on Disney Channel, Disney Junior launched its own 24-hour TV channel on March 23, 2012. It also immediately carried a high definition counterpart, in the 720p resolution format.
Most of the programs originally from Playhouse Disney were moved to this network, such as Little Einsteins, Mickey Mouse Playhouse, Rolie Polie Olie, and PB&J Otter. Also aired on Disney Junior were some classic Disney Channel shows, like The Little Mermaid (1992-1994), Timon & Pumbaa (1995-1999), and Jungle Cubs (1996-1998), and lots of motion picture films.
After 2019, Disney Junior stopped airing movies altogether.
