Bambi was announced for its 1997 VHS release on October 29, 1996, (the same day the 1996 VHS of Toy Story was released) with the first tapes printed in December 1996. Restored for its 55th anniversary, this VHS of Bambi was released on February 4, 1997 and was only available in most stores for at least 55 days, until March 31, 1997.^[2]

The VHS was the first Disney VHS release to be THX-certified.
