The new Game Boy Color is similar to the first Game Boy, except the screen is available in color. To turn on the system, slide the switch to the left of the screen. Requires two AA batteries. The cartridge is a little similar to the first Game Boy. It will also fit in later Game Boy systems, but NOT in the original Game Boy.
The Game Boy Color was released in late 1998 in most countries (October 21 in Japan, November 18 in North America, November 23 in Europe, and November 27 in Australia). Its games can carry anywhere between 4 to 16 megabits. This handheld console was sold at a price of $79.99, and came in six different colors -- Atomic Purple, Berry Red, Kiwi Green, Dandelion Yellow, Teal, and Grape. In Japan, the Game Boy Color was sold at a retail price of 7,000 yen, and was available in these six colors: Clear, Yellow, Red, Clear Purple, opaque Purple, and Blue.
On October 25, 1999, one week after Pokemon Yellow was released, a Special Pikachu Edition of the Game Boy Color console itself followed. It was only available for a limited time.
In 2000, the Game Boy Color's list price was reduced to $69.99. The last games were released in 2002, and the console was discontinued in 2003.

Some notable Game Boy Color games include Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (1999) and Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble (2000/2001).

The Game Link Cable is still required for 2-player games.
