Friendship is Magic is the first episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, as well as the first two-part story of the series. Part 1 premiered on the Hub Network on October 10, 2010, and Part 2 on October 22. They were also available for streaming at HubWorld.com in late 2010 for a limited time.
Synopsis[]
Part 1: After attempting to warn Princess Celestia about the return of the wicked Nightmare Moon, Twilight Sparkle and Spike travel to Ponyville where they meet Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Fluttershy.
Part 2: It is up to Twilight and her new pony friends to help the Princess, but it will not be easy. Nightmare Moon challenges the ponies with individual obstacles they must overcome to find the Elements of Harmony before it is too late.

In the early stages, there were different names for the characters:
- Queen Celestia (Princess Celestia)
- Princess Selena (Princess Luna)
- Night Mare (Nightmare Moon)
- Twilight Twinkle (Twilight Sparkle)
On the fourth draft of the script, Queen Celestia was renamed Princess Celestia. Twilight Twinkle was renamed Twilight Sparkle on the "locked polish" draft.
The song used in part 2, "Laughter Song", was first composed and performed on December 7, 2009. Voice recording for this episode lasted from December 9–10, 2009.
