For the Indigo League season, each VHS contains two episodes. From July to December 1998 and March to August 1999, the first 36 volumes of the Indigo League season came out three at a time per month, and the last four were released two at a time in September and October 1999. The videos were distributed by Kadokawa Video.
The first 31 volumes contain episodes 1-37 and 39-63. Volume 32 contains the 64th episode and a previously rescheduled episode, "Iwark as a Bivouac" (Snow Way Out), which actually took place before Episode 40/37, The Battling Eevee Brothers. After this, it continues with episodes 65-80 for the last eight volumes.
Two episodes were banned: Electric Soldier Porygon, for its flashing strobe effect that gave roughly 600 children seizures and several other health symptoms, and Holiday Hi-Jynx, the other previously rescheduled episode that contains a racial stereotype Pokemon (Jynx).
For the Orange Islands version, each VHS contains three episodes (two for the last volume) in each of 12 volumes. One episode was not released: Episode 106/104, Pikachu vs. Nyarth, for unknown reasons. The videos were distributed by Shogakukan Video, and released from March to September 2000.
