United KingdomEdit

Season 1 (1985-1986)Edit

The original 1985 and 1986 prints of the first three videos were distributed by Kaleidoscope, a British home video distribution company. The first video, Thomas and Gordon and Other Stories, contains eight stories, while the other two -- Troublesome Trucks and Other Stories and Coal and Other Stories -- each have nine. All 26 stories are narrated by Ringo Starr.

On September 10, 1990, a special video titled "Bumper Special" was released on VHS. It has 17 of all 26 stories in one video.

Season 2 (1987)Edit

The original 1987 prints of all three Season 2 videos were distributed by Screen Legends, a division of the British home video distribution company Pickwick Video. The first two videos -- Thomas, Percy and the Coal and Other Stories and Percy and Harold and Other Stories -- each contain eight stories, while the last one, The Deputation and Other Stories, has ten.

On June 24, 1991, "The Best of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends" was released on VHS by Pickwick Video, their last video before they stopped distributing Thomas & Friends. It has 18 of all 26 stories in one video.

Season 3 (1991-1994)Edit

The Video Collection, now independent, distributed three more Thomas & Friends videos for Season 3 -- Time for Trouble and Other Stories (November 11, 1991), Trust Thomas and Other Stories (November 11, 1991) and Escape and Other Stories (September 14, 1992). The first two of these videos contain eight stories, and the last one has ten. All stories are told by Michael Angelis. On October 5, 1992, The Video Collection re-released all three Season 2 videos as Percy and the Signal and Other Stories, The Runaway and Other Stories, and Ghost Train and Other Stories, respectively. In 1993, The Video Collection re-released the first three videos as Thomas and the Trucks and Other Stories, Thomas Goes Fishing and Other Stories, and Down the Mine and Other Stories, respectively.

Thomas' Christmas Party and 17 Other Stories, released on November 1, 1993, along with Thomas Gets Bumped and 17 Other Stories, released on March 1, 1994, each contain randomly selected episodes from Seasons 1-3.

Season 4 (1994-1998)Edit

Starting on November 7, 1994, The Video Collection released Season 4 episodes on home video. The first one -- Rock 'n' Roll and Other Stories -- had eight stories, while Thomas and Stepney and Other Stories, released on August 21, 1995, had nine.

Also included was a "100-minute special" video titled Thomas' Train and 17 Other Stories, released on July 3, 1995. It really comprised of select episodes from Seasons 1-4. Another 17-episode video, The Biggest Ever Christmas Collection, was released on November 11, 1996. Later on October 6, 1997, VCI Entertainment released an 18-episode video titled Chases, Races and Runaways, followed by a 20-episode video, Biggest Party Video Ever!, on March 23, 1998.

On November 20, 1995, Video Collection International (VCI for short) distributed their first Thomas & Friends video, Story and Song Collection, which had ten stories.

The Story and Song Collection VHS, released on March 4, 1996, had five episodes and five songs.

The Playtime VHS had eight episodes and three songs from Seasons 1-4, and was released on March 3, 1997.

Season 5 (1998-2002)Edit

This was the last season produced by the Britt Allcroft Company. The first video of this season was "Spooks & Surprises", released on October 5, 1998 with eight stories.

Happy Holidays only had six, but also three songs, when released on March 8, 1999.

Rescues on the Railways had five stories and four songs. This video was released on October 1, 1999.

Singalong with Thomas, released on April 10, 2000, had no stories, but 15 songs.

Fun Time Favorites was released on July 3, 2000. This video had 12 stories within all five seasons.

Peep Peep Party was the very first Thomas & Friends title also released on Region 2 DVD, on October 9, 2000. One episode is added to the DVD of this title.

Truck Loads of Fun had 10 episodes and two songs, and was released on March 26, 2001.

The bumper-length video Seasonal Scrapes was released on October 8, 2001, and included 17 episodes from all five seasons.

The last Season 5 title was The Very Best of Thomas & Friends, with 16 stories. It was first released on VHS on March 4, 2002, then on DVD on August 18, 2003.

The first three seasons were released in 17 volumes, with the first three originally from March 21, 1991, and ending with the last three volumes on September 18, 1992.

As of July 1995, the fourth season came out on VHS as "New Thomas & Friends", and was available in six volumes. The fifth season was released in January 1999 as "New Thomas & Friends: Series 2".
