This logo began when Jeopardy! premiered on September 10, 1984. The Jeopardy! music still plays during this logo, which is always followed by a KingWorld (or in the case of plastering, Columbia Tristar Television) logo.
Only this logo can still be seen on the Jeopardy!: An Inside Look at America's Favorite Quiz Show DVD.
The byline "A Unit of the Coca-Cola Company" was used for only one year on Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. This byline can also be seen on the 1982 Columbia Pictures Television logo. On that next year, the byline was slightly changed to "A Unit of Coca-Cola Television".
The next byline to appear on the Merv Griffin Enterprises logo was "A Unit of Columbia Pictures Entertainment, Inc.". This byline was also seen on the 1987 Columbia Pictures Television logo. It was used on Seasons 5-8 of Jeopardy! and Seasons 6-9 of Wheel of Fortune.
The last byline for the Merv Griffin Enterprises logo is "A Sony Pictures Entertainment Company", the most popular byline ever used on Columbia-affiliated television programs and movies for over 20 years.
Only ran from January 1993 (during Season 10 of Wheel of Fortune and Season 9 of Jeopardy!) to the end of the 11th season of Wheel of Fortune and 10th season of Jeopardy!, all of the Merv Griffin Enterprises logos will probably no longer be available on TV (even though they were last seen on GSN the early 2000s); most likely instead, the Sony Pictures Television logo will appear in place of these logos.
Merv Griffin Enterprises' last logo was last seen on weekend reruns of both shows on over-the-air syndication in August 1995.
