The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat was re-released on VHS by Paramount Home Video for the Christmas holidays of 2000. It was only available for a very limited time, because in 2001, Universal Studios Home Video bought the rights to re-distribute all seven Dr. Seuss films for the last time on VHS, including The Hoober-Bloob Highway.

For both the 2000 and 2001 prints, the old cover artworks from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment were retained.

Along with new cover artwork, both TV specials were released together on DVD in 2003. Inside the DVD is a "Song Selections" menu that allows you to play from the starting point of certain musical numbers. There are five in each film.

The DVD also includes a sneak preview of the 2003 film, The Cat in the Hat.
