1978-1981: MCA DiscoVision[]

Universal Studios Home Entertainment started off as MCA DiscoVision, which was founded in 1978. This was the company's only logo back then. It appears on the 1978 laserdisc print of On Vacation with Mickey Mouse and Friends. At that time, seven Disney titles were released from DiscoVision.

1980-1983: MCA Videocassette/Videodisc[]

After MCA and Disney broke up in 1981, the company changed its old name to two different company names -- MCA Videocassette and MCA Videodisc. These next two logos prove it all.

1983-1990: MCA Home Video[]

This logo was introduced when the company changed its name to MCA Home Video. It is mostly found on mid to late 1980s VHS tapes of Universal films, such as the original 1988 VHS of E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (1982).

1990-1998: MCA/Universal Home Video[]

When Universal City Studios turned 75 years old, the company's name got changed yet again, this time to MCA/Universal Home Video. You can find this logo on VHS tapes and Laserdiscs from the early to mid 1990s, including the 1994 VHS of Jurassic Park (1993) and The Adventures of Timmy the Tooth videos. On DVD, it can be seen at the end of The Secrets of the Back to the Future Trilogy documentary on the 2002 DVD release of Back to the Future Part III released on the Back to the Future trilogy DVD set and the beginning of The Making of Jurassic Park documentary on the 2000 Collector's Edition DVD of Jurassic Park.

1997-2012: Universal Studios Home Video/Entertainment[]

On December 9, 1996, after MCA became defunct, the company became Universal Studios, Inc.. For that, MCA/Universal Home Video's name was changed to Universal Studios Home Video, which later became Universal Studios Home Entertainment, the name still used today.

The logo is still seen on all DVD releases of installments from Universal Studios until 2012, except of course, on the original DVD/VHS release of The Cat in the Hat. As of that year, the film logo is used as the home video logo for current releases of Universal Pictures films.
